5 Ways to Increase Home Safety Inexpensively
LightCam community, we are excited to be sharing these tips with you today. One of the main reasons we designed LightCam was to help provide a greater peace of mind. Giving users confidence that their homes, families, and belongings are safe is the simple mission we adhere to. While you can’t predict everything in life, we have found there are steps everyone can take to help ensure this peace of mind.
Today we are sharing our top 5 tips to increase home safety without the big price tag. Safety shouldn’t prevent you from living your best life, and we believe it should be more easily accessible to anyone who wants to focus on the things that matter.
Tip #1 Always look before opening the door:
This may seem like a no brainer, but you have no idea how many people will just open the door when someone knocks. With LightCam you can check from your phone to see who is at the door, even when you aren’t home. If you don’t yet have your LightCam installed be sure to check through a peephole or side window before opening the door, and remind the little ones to never answer the door unless they know who it is.
Tip #2 Create the illusion of someone being home:
Did we hear you say vacation? It’s summertime which means you are probably planning to take a couple trips and enjoy some fun in the sun, and while you are away there are some easy steps to take to make your home look occupied. Keep lights on by windows, and be sure to have blind or curtains drawn. Ask your neighbor or a close friend to pick up your mail, that way it doesn’t look unattended to for days. Play music while you are gone, having sound playing can deter unwanted guests.
Tip # 3 Don’t leave notes on the door for other people:
If you decide to have a neighbor take care of your place while you are gone, be sure that you leave all instructions with them ahead of time. Don’t leave a post it note on your door with instructions.
Tip # 4 Motion sensitive lights:
Motion sensitive lights are a great deterrent, because often times they are a signal that there are cameras on the property as well. Motion sensitive lights are also helpful if you are away from home and something did happen and you want to see who was on your property.Â
Pro Tip: Make sure when you install your motion sensitive lights that you have correct placement so that they don’t get set off all the time by your neighbors dog.
Tip # 5 Invest in good locks on your doors:
A good lock will cost you less than $100 and you can get a keypad for less than $200. While this is a small investment it will save you a lot of time, worry, and money in the long run.
We hope these tips help you get the peace of mind you so deserve, and if you have any tips to share leave them in the comments below!
